The Virtual CIO

• Former CEO/CIO of a successful Financial Services SaaS company brought in as the Virtual CIO to turn around business performance and grow business for his client.
• Strategy is through cloud enablement to accelerate digital transformation.
• Virtual CIO does not have a team but does not want to bring in expensive 3rd party consultancies.

Understanding the strategy

• Logical was debriefed on a detailed strategic roadmap and the enterprise architecture to allow the end client to adopt cloud technologies as the platform for future growth, at the same time mitigating risks with legacy system technologies.

Feasibility Assessment

• Logical engaged to provide a feasibility assessment on the availability and costs associated with a contract team including a Cloud Architect, a financial services Business Analyst, a Software Test Manager and a Software Developer.
• Armed with the knowledge that Logical could provide and manage the team, the virtual CIO arranged sign off, initially for a 12 month proof of concept project for a SaaS Credit Cards Management project.

Multi skilled professionals

• It was a lean team for such a sizeable project so each person being multi disciplined and able to cover skill gaps was important.

Logical’s Approach

• Logical works in partnership with the Virtual CIO to provide resource management.
• The team is locked and loaded prior to Virtual CIO signing off to mitigate project risks.
• All participants are under an NDA and go through an extensive onboarding induction, of up to 2 weeks, prior to being introduced to the end client.
• The consultants are key to the success of the project but also represent the Virtual CIO, there is no cookie cutter formula for resourcing the right team member.
• Logical created a pipeline of suitably experience consultants across the disciplines and managed the pipeline so that there was a suitable consultant the moment we had go live.
• The consultants are contracted to Logical. Logical provide payroll, including withholding tax deductions and manage time sheeting, bcti (buyer-created tax invoices), PI/PL insurance and invoicing.
• Virtual CIO is responsible for on site Program Management of resources.
• In this case the Virtual CIO have a zero days’ notice period with Logical. This is a further risk mitigation factor if the project is halted for any reason.
